Devon Open Studios with Amy McCarthy and Michelle Greenwood Brown
Well, we are drawing to the end of Devon Open Studios season and the gallery has had masses of visitors drawn to the mosaic work of Michelle Greenwood Brown and the glass work of Amy McCarthy.
Both artists have made significant contributions to the cultural identity of Teignbridge with a plethora of public and private commissions. Michelle has recently completed a mosaic seating structure at Homelands botanical gardens in Shaldon... its had quite a lot of press coverage over the past couple of weeks. Amy has organised another TRAIL sculpture event in Teignmouth and a prestigious Hospital Rooms commission at Torbay Hospital - she also has a huge spread in Devon Life magazine this month.
As an almost one-man-band curator and gallery manager its quite nice to have a bit of full time company and support in the space (also gives me the opportunity to leave the building in their capable hands for an afternoon out with my kids).
If you are in Teignmouth this weekend do come in and watch them work on commissioned stained glass and mosaic pieces and talk to them about their process and inspiration. Last day is Sunday 25th September.
