New Artists, New Work, New Exhibition
Words & Pictures Gallery would like to welcome two new artists to the gallery - Painter Giles Ward and Ceramicist Pamela Brooker.
Giles was trained as an illustrator and divides his time running his own graphic design company and painting. We are lucky enough to have 5 pieces in the gallery at the moment Which I am in the process of hanging but I thought I would give you a little preview.
'Mackerel on a Plate' & 'Together' diptych, oil and mixed media on board, framed.
'Crab Claw' & 'Claw' oil and mixed media on board, framed.
Giles has a contract with 'Whistlefish' and you will soon see these paintings as reproduction prints, postcards and greetings cards across the South West, so we are quite privileged to have the originals in the gallery... and at the moment they are very reasonably priced!
Our New Ceramicist Pamela Brooker is a working potter and teacher. Studying a Masters degree at Cardiff and running a studio in the Forest of Dean (member of South Wales Potters Association) before moving South to Teignmouth. Her pieces are beautifully made from red earthenware clay with coloured slip decoration applied to the surface.
You dont really get a sense of the proportions from the images but they have such a nice volume. These are domestic pieces that have been designed by someone who clearly knows exactly what would be useful. So practical, beautiful and well priced - what's not to love?

And - as promised - details about our next Exhibition. A solo show by painter Donna Hogarth.
The show entitled 'RELICS' references the shapes, forms and components that float around the canvas. I don't know what pieces will be selected for the show but in the past Donna has used collage material, stitch and other mixed media and i'm excited to see this new series.
Please try and make it to the private view on 20th February
