Happy New Year from Words & Pictures Gallery - we have an exciting calendar of exhibitions for 2
Let us hope that 2018 is going to be a better year than 2017 both politically, socially and culturally. There didn't seem to be much in the way of artists resistance and reflection of the awful political mess and saddening rise of right-wing extremism. Very much a year of knee-jerk reaction, pessimism, obtuse stupidity and a distinct lack of altruism. In an effort to re-balance this we are attempting to organise an exhibition towards the end of the year tentatively entitled 'Resistance' - details to follow.
What ever you think the purpose of contemporary art is, at the very least it should reflect the time in which it was made and perhaps at its best contribute to or even up-date contemporary culture?
Rant completed, we have some fabulous exhibitions in the pipeline this year kicking off with a series of mixed media abstracts by Donna Hogarth in February (images and details to follow). I'm really looking forward to it and we would love for you to attend the private view - I will post dates and times etc next week.
