Exhibition Opportunity

Venue: Words & Pictures Gallery

Title: ‘Six Degrees of Separation’ (affordable art - Postcard Exhibition)

Details:

Words & Pictures Gallery (www.wordsandpicturesgallery.com) is happy to be working in collaboration with SUPPORT4CO to offer artists the opportunity to exhibit work in a group show at the Words & Pictures Gallery in Teignmouth, Devon.

SUPPORT4CO is a charity that supports families with children who have been diagnosed with cancer. Support comes from families who have already been through the trauma of a child with cancer, with advice, guidance, moral support, small bursaries and just somebody to talk to who have gone through the same experience.

50% of proceeds made from the sale of work will go directly to the charity and 50% will be retained by the artist.

Exhibition Theme: ‘Six Degrees of Separation’

Frigyes Karinthy initially proposed the idea that either through, friends, friends of friends, families or acquaintances everybody is connected in some way to everybody else in the world by six removes or less. This is probably less today with the popularity and penetration of social media. It is probably true to say then, however unfortunate, that everybody is connected to somebody who has had or is suffering from some form of cancer. It should really follow then that it is everybody’s duty to offer support to those people and the families of those people, particularly if the victim is a child.

Guidelines

  • Media: any media / material / format but all works must be 2D and fit within a 6” x 4” (15.5cm x 10cm) mount (to be supplied by the gallery). Low relief is acceptable.

  • Artists may exhibit up to 3 ‘original’ artworks.

  • All work to be delivered and collected by the artist. Work can be sent through the postal service (as a postcard if appropriate!). Artists are responsible for providing the gallery with a SAE with appropriate postage for size and weight of postcard for unsold returns (the gallery will not charge any administration fee but cannot return work without appropriate arrangements made by the artist).

  • Selection of work will be determined by the exhibition organisers, exhibition of all work is not guaranteed. Artists are invited to send a jpeg image for pre-selection to: mailbox@wordsandpicturesgallery.com

  • All work will be sold at an ‘affordable art’ flat rate of £40 with 50% of proceeds going to SUPPORT4CO (the flat rate is to encourage sales for the charity and allow for a more democratic opportunity for the ownership of art, though the price may be well below normal market value)*

*(please note that Words & Pictures Gallery will not take any commission on sales)
