First Exhibition of the year - 'RELICS' Donna Hogarth

New Artists, New Work, New Exhibition

Words & Pictures Gallery would like to welcome two new artists to the gallery - Painter Giles Ward and Ceramicist Pamela Brooker. Giles was trained as an illustrator and divides his time running his own graphic design company and painting. We are lucky enough to have 5 pieces in the gallery at the moment Which I am in the process of hanging but I thought I would give you a little preview. New work, New Workbench, New Layout - We are ready for 2018... Bring it on!

New layout in the gallery ready for whatever the new year can throw at us. I've decided to move some of my making practice to the gallery so I can manufacture in-between curating shows and manning the space. So the next time you come to the gallery I may very well be covered in paint, rust, PVA, resin, sawdust or blood. In the top right hand corner you can see two new Rachael Bennett paintings - the surface texture and form mimic the paint and visual qualities but don't follow it, so there are two different qualities at play. Let us hope that 2018 is going to be a better year than 2017 both politically, socially and culturally. There didn't seem to be much in the way of artists resistance and reflection of the awful political mess and saddening rise of right-wing extremism. Very much a year of knee-jerk reaction, pessimism, obtuse stupidity and a distinct lack of altruism. In an effort to re-balance this we are attempting to organise an exhibition towards the end of the year tentatively entitled 'Resistance' - details to follow.
